Second Sundays

On the second Sunday of each month, we offer free admission for all visitors from 12 noon to 5 p.m. and special programming from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring the entire family and enjoy art-making activities, tours, performances, and the High’s collection and special exhibitions. Each month has a new theme and adventure planned especially for you.

Family Guides

Take a self-guided journey through our permanent collection and special exhibitions with your family. Each month, our guides explore a new theme through four works of art, questions to prompt exploration, and opportunities to sketch in our galleries. Download a copy before your visit or pick up a guide near the elevators in the main lobby (Wieland Pavilion) or Greene Family Education Center (Stent Family Wing). Best for ages 5+.

Art Making

Find inspiration in our galleries and then get creative in our family-friendly art workshops. High Museum teaching artists lead drop-in classes where we provide the supplies and you make the masterpieces.

Art Movers

The High Museum of Art developed Art Movers to empower families to engage with art. This in-gallery workshop focuses on a selected work as a prompt for interpretation through movement. Families learn new ways of looking at art, how to move their bodies to get different perspectives and interpret meaning, and how spending time looking closely can shift our interpretations of an artwork. Best for ages 6+.

Baby Steps

Children’s earliest encounters with art are about interacting with the world around them. Baby Steps provides a fun opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation with your child in the galleries. Join High Museum education staff each month to learn new strategies for introducing your baby to art. Best for fifteen months and younger in a front carrier or stroller with a caregiver.

Toddler Tours

Toddler Tours are physically interactive, twenty-minute educational experiences for young children. Building on budding imaginations, we use dance and drama-based strategies to interpret works of art and learn about museums. Best for ages fifteen months through three years.

Story Times

At the High, our teaching artists read with children and invite them to make meaning of a book’s art, text, and design. Our interactive story times—inspired by Megan Dowd Lambert’s Whole Book Approach—include drama, movement, and opportunities to touch and handle objects related to the books.

Each book follows a monthly theme and fosters engagement with art and storytelling. The High collaborates with Atlanta-based children’s librarians to select developmentally appropriate books and ensure a wonderful experience for you and your child.

Sensory Room

The High Museum’s sensory room, open during Second Sundays, is designed as a safe space to promote self-care and recovery for visiting families. In this room, you will find noise-canceling headphones, a crash pad, calm lighting, a texture wall, and multiple toys. The sensory room is located in the Orange Workshop on the main level of the Stent Family Wing. If you have feedback on the sensory room or would like to request additional accommodations, please contact the Manager of Family Programs, Nicole Cromartie, at or 404-733-4815.

Generous support for this program is provided by the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation.
