Arty Parties

Celebrate your child’s special day at the High Museum of Art! Encourage your child’s creative side with an exclusive birthday experience you can’t find anywhere else. Our Arty Party experiences are geared toward budding artists, imaginative creators, and inspired makers. Led by professional teaching artists and your very own Arty Partner, your guests will have an exclusive interactive tour in the galleries and then create original artworks in the workshop.

Arty Parties are exclusively for High Museum members at the Dual/Family levels and above and are offered on select Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and on select Sundays at 2:30 p.m. The fee for an Arty Party is $500.

To schedule your Museum Arty Party or check for available dates and times, fill out the form under the “Reserve a Party” tab and a representative will contact you within 3 business days. For additional information, check out our Arty Party FAQ. If you have further questions, please call us at 404-733-4465.

  • Arty Party Basics

What is included in my birthday party reservation?
Your Arty Party includes up to 20 children with one accompanying adult per child. All parties last for two hours. Guests will take a guided gallery tour, participate in an art-making workshop, and enjoy free time in the workshop for opening gifts and/or eating cake.

    Your Arty Party also includes:

    • 20 juice boxes
    • 20 water bottles
    • Decorations related to your selected theme (see the “Themes” tab for theme options)
    • Stickers for everyone in your group (up to 20) good for Museum admission following the party
    • 1 parking pass for the birthday family

What if I want to invite more than 20 children?
Our birthday parties are designed as small group experiences, and we are unable to accommodate more than 20 children per workshop. If you would like to have a party with more than 20 children, you must place a separate reservation for the same date/time.

What about siblings and adults of my invited guests?
Our Arty Parties include up to 20 children with one accompanying adult each. If you have additional children invited, you will need to place a reservation for an additional party.

How old does my child have to be to have a birthday party at the High?
The birthday child must be turning 5 or older to have a birthday party at the High. Activities are developmentally appropriate for children ages 5–13.

How long will the birthday party last?
Arty Party times are 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (Saturdays) or 2:30–4:30 p.m. (Saturdays and Sundays). The birthday family can arrive 30 minutes prior to the party for setup and remain 30 minutes after the party for loading out gifts or other items.

    Which themes are available?
Themes for the party activities are listed in the “Themes” tab on this page. The gallery experiences and projects for each theme are geared toward the birthday child’s age group.

Each of our themes focuses on the Museum’s collection or one of our special exhibitions. With new themes offered each year, every party will be a different adventure!

    Who leads the activities?
Professional teaching artists lead gallery tours and art-making workshops. An Arty Partner checks the guests in, assists during party activities, and helps the birthday family load out any belongings.

Arty Party Arrival, Parking, and Check-In

Where should I check in for my party? What about my guests?
When you arrive, please check in at the Taylor Lobby and let our staff know whose party you’re here for. Your Arty Partner will show you to your party room so you may set up. Guests will also check in at the Taylor Lobby and will be escorted down to the party room at the designated start time.

The Museum requires that a guest list be emailed at least 48 hours prior to your party time. In addition to keeping the arrivals organized, this will also allow your Arty Partner to know how many people will be checking in. Anyone who is not on your list will not be permitted to enter the Museum or attend your party—no exceptions. A guest list form will be emailed to you at the beginning of the week of your party. We ask that you consider the capacity prior to planning your guest list, including all adults, children, and siblings.

Where should my guests and I park?
The birthday family will be provided one pass for free parking in the Woodruff Arts Center parking deck. Guests are also welcome to park in the Woodruff Arts Center parking deck. Please see the High’s parking page for additional options.

What if I am running late or my guests arrive late?
Arty Parties start promptly at the designated times listed. It is highly recommended that you arrive 20–30 minutes prior to the party. Guests may begin arriving 15 minutes prior to the party. Refunds or extra party time will not be issued due to late arrivals.

Can my group arrive earlier than the birthday start time to explore the Museum?
Your group is welcome to explore the Museum and the Greene Family Learning Gallery after the scheduled party time with their birthday party sticker. Entrance into the Museum prior to the start of the birthday party is not permitted.

    Arty Party Decorations and Food

    Can I bring decorations?
The facilities will be decorated according to the theme you have selected for your party. No outside decorations are permitted, including balloons.

Can I buy food at the Museum?
Included in your Arty Party are 20 juice boxes and 20 water bottles. No outside food is permitted to be brought into any birthday party except cakes (see below). You can contact our Catering department [phone number/email] to learn about food options. Party guests are also welcome to visit the High Café or Twelve Eighty – Inspired Dining before or after the party.

    What about the birthday cake?
The birthday family may bring a cake. We are unable to store or refrigerate cakes. Please note that birthday cakes and/or cupcakes are the only outside food items permitted. The birthday family is responsible for providing all plates, napkins, and utensils necessary for serving the birthday cake.
