Thinking Eye, Seeing Mind: The Medford and Loraine Johnston Collection

Charter and Cornerstone Member Tour

Tuesday, May 20 | 6–8 p.m.
Location: High Museum of Art

Charter and Cornerstone members of the High Museum of Art are invited to join Michael Rooks, Wieland Family Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, for an exclusive after-hours cocktail hour and tour of Thinking Eye, Seeing Mind: The Medford and Loraine Johnston Collection.

In the mid-1970s, the Johnstons began collecting works by artists who were in the vanguard of contemporary art in the late 1960s and 1970s. They quickly narrowed their focus to drawings, primarily by artists working on the frontlines of abstraction in the mid-1960s. Today, they hold one of the finest collections of postwar American drawings and related objects of its kind, which is a promised gift to the museum and features works by artists including Sol LeWitt, Elizabeth Murray, Martin Puryear, and Stanley Whitney, among many others.
