This engraving by Jean Daullé corresponds with a painting by Pierre Mignard (French, 1612–1695). The image depicts Catherine Mignard leaning against a painted portrait of her father, Mignard. An inscription at the bottom of the portrait calls Mignard "painter of the king" (Peintre du Roy). The young woman holds a trumpet in one hand and the folds of her dress in the other. At the base of the painting, several crumpled sheets resemble portrait engravings, citing the art of printed reproduction in which Daullé's engraving participates.
