The Written Law The series title page reproduces the preamble to the legal document, naming its purpose and the participating parties. The text in old Norse German is transcribed from one of the earliest-known copies—dating to the end of the sixteenth century—of the original document, which has not survived. Grohs cast the text in an archaic-looking font that calls to mind old runic writing.
