During the 1950s and ’60s, Finster sold his handmade woodcrafts, such as doll furniture and case clocks. Many of these objects, which he hung on the wall outside of his workshop to attract potential customers, feature Finster’s method of burning patterns into strips of wood using a machine of his own invention. After his 1976 vision propelled him to create sacred art, Finster used this process, which he called “artificial inlay,” to create beautiful frames for his early works—many examples are displayed throughout the gallery.
