In Finster’s lesson about human endeavor both sacred and secular, people climb to the top of trees and lean up from outside the borders of the painting, striving upward toward Heaven. In the center of the composition a rosette surrounds the portrait group of Finster’s heroes. The work serves as a reminder that Paradise Garden was originally named the Plant Farm Museum, and its mission was to celebrate all the achievements of humankind.
