Description
This remarkable bedstead was made for the New York home of Pierre Lorillard, an early tobacco magnate. He was among the many prominent patrons of Herter Brothers, a group that included nearly every American captain of industry by the end of the 1880s. Herter Brothers also executed major commissions for William H. Vanderbilt (including the chair on display nearby), financier J. P. Morgan, and the White House.
