Description

Ensor evokes the operation of envy by juxtaposing a handsome young couple—radiant, well matched, and blessed with a baby—with a crowd of less fortunate characters—emaciated old women and ugly men with monstrous noses—who ogle the couple with a mixture of longing and disdain.
