Description
Considered by many to be a pioneer of Minimalism, Robert Morris made work that was incredibly versatile, spanning the categories of Land Art, Neo-Expressionist painting, and performance art. His felt sculptures grew out of his interest in allowing simple processes to shape his work. Interested more in soliciting answers from viewers than providing specific direction, Morris pursued the question of space and its relationship with objects, explaining, “random piling, loose stacking, [and] hanging give passing form to the material. . . . It is part of the work’s refusal to continue aestheticizing form by dealing with it as a prescribed end.”
