Looking for more art conversations? Join us in person or online on the first Tuesday of every month for Conversation Pieces.
Through Lines
Museum Galleries | 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.
How do different artworks approach similar ideas in unique ways? In these lively conversations, we will explore two different pieces to connect art across time, geography, identity, and belief.
Through Lines meets at the first artwork location and lasts thirty to forty-five minutes. Please see below for times, artworks, and locations. Stools and assistive listening devices will be available and are highly recommended.
10:30 a.m.: Lucy T. Petway (American, 1921-2004), Birds in the Air (1981) and Hank Willis Thomas (American, born 1976), You Shouldn’t Be the Prisoner of Your Own Ideas (LeWitt) (2017)
11:30 a.m.: Tyler Mitchell (American, born 1995), Georgia Hillside (Redlining) (2021) and Gordon Parks (American, 1912-2006), Harlem Rally, Harlem, New York (1963)

Open Studio: Drawing with Conté Crayons
Greene Family Education Center, Red Workshop | 10 a.m.–12 p.m. noon and 2–4 p.m.
Experiment, play, and exercise your creativity during Open Studio! This informal drop-in program encourages adults of all ages to explore different materials and techniques with guidance from High Museum of Art teaching artists. Materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary.
This month, we will explore mark making and tone using conté crayons on pieces of colored and shaped paper. Looking at the geometric patterns in Yocouba Bonde’s Nwantantay Mask and the layered marks in Françoise, Holding a Little Dog, Looking Far to the Right by Mary Cassatt, we will experiment with a variety of techniques to create light and dark tones in both abstract and descriptive drawings.
