About the Music

S. Bach composed six Suites for Solo Cello between 1717 and 1723. Three centuries later, they remain some of the most iconic pieces in the world of classical music and are performed as often by violists as by cellists. Each Suite comprises six short movements, each a dance form of the era, though the music transcends the dance forms as Bach expresses the gamut of human and spiritual experience.
