Step into the imaginative world of design at the High!

Join this studio class to explore the art of reimagining functional, everyday objects using paper, cardboard, wood, metal, wire, fabric, and more. Inspired by the High’s Decorative Arts and Design collection, we will look at work from artists and designers like Ettore Sottsass Jr., whose work was rooted in reimagining and transforming the ordinary through design, and Jaime Hayon, creator of the iconic Green Chicken. Under the guidance of instructor Daniel Mantilla, we will experiment with various materials and assembly techniques to make our own unique objects—ranging from organic-inspired creations to furniture with personality. Then we’ll share and discuss our designs with the group, receive professional feedback and support from the instructor, and celebrate our journey into the world of design!

About Your Instructor

He has studied paintings in museum collections in Spain, conducted research on cadmium-free acrylic paint, and holds an MFA from Hunter College.
