1:00 pm –2:30 pm
Join artist Larkin Ford as he leads drawing sessions that take inspiration from the High’s campus and collection. Each session will focus on abstraction and nonobjective painting while giving visitors the tools to create, assess, and appreciate art with no recognizable subject matter. Classes will take a different approach on how one pays attention to line, shape, texture, value (light and dark), and hard and soft edges. The theme for each class is optional, allowing participants to explore their personal expression and develop their drawing skills.
Space is limited, and preregistration is required. Your ticket includes access to the Museum galleries. Supplies are included.
Drawing from Experience sessions will have seating based on social distancing guidelines and will be outside when weather allows. Masks are required for all visitors over the age of two. Please see the High’s COVID guidelines for additional information.
October 2: From Reality to Abstraction
Stray from reality into abstraction in this session as you follow the contours of an object and create overlapping blind drawings—looking only at your subject and never at your drawing. Look for shapes within the tangle of lines you’ve created, and learn how to play with value and contrast to draw viewers into your work.
