Greene Family Education Center
Join artist Larkin Ford as he leads drawing sessions that mix direct observation and printed reference images. Learn various methods of combining multiple image sources into one final drawing to create a cohesive piece. Stitch figures together to create a believable representation of reality, or flatten the world to give your drawings a collage-like effect.
All drawing levels welcome; supplies are included. Your ticket includes access to the Museum galleries, but does not include tickets to the Obama Portraits Tour exhibition.
March 5: Collage-Flavored Ink Drawing
Using Romare Bearden and Jacob Lawrence as inspiration, create forms and environments whose proportions are strange and unexpected. Play with scale when drawing different body parts, or trace directly from sources—you can bring printed images if you’d like—to mimic them as closely as you can! Learn how to translate various textures such as skin, fabric, and stone into pen lines. Your final drawing will tell a story without relying on realistic proportions!
Before your visit, please review the High’s COVID Guidelines.
