On the third Friday of every month, mark your calendar for live jazz in the High’s atrium, hosted by Jamal Ahmad from Jazz 91.9 WCLK, Atlanta’s jazz station! Music, drinks, art—no matter the month, every Friday Jazz offers a great lineup featuring different styles of jazz, from straight ahead to free jazz, bebop to swing, and more.

September features the hypnotic sound and technical proficiency of trumpeter Melvin Jones. A graduate of Morehouse College and the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Jones has performed with a diverse range of musical icons, from Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder to Missy Elliott and John Legend. You can find out more about Melvin Jones here.

Prepay for guaranteed parking or take MARTA to the Arts Center Station (N5).

Seating for Friday Jazz is limited and opens at 6 p.m. There is no reserved seating. Standing room is plentiful. Friday Jazz is FREE with Museum admission and FREE for members.

Our 2017 Outdoor Performance Series coincides with First Fridays and Friday Jazz programs each month.

Enjoy live music by Sonic Generator at 6:15 p.m. and a dance performance by Bella Dorado at 7:30 p.m. on our Sifly Piazza.

Sonic Generator uses technology to transform how we compose, perform, and listen to music. Presenting a diverse lineup of music, this contemporary music ensemble has used wineglasses, iPhones, comic strips, car speakers, DJs, and a robotic drummer and frequently collaborates with visual artists on video projections to accompany its performances.

Bella Dorado is a Bolivian-born, Tennessee-raised artist of movement and words. Based in Atlanta, she works with independent choreographers and performers to approach each project with a sense of curiosity and investigation. Her work has been featured in performances and festivals throughout the Southeast. Bella Dorado is a resident artist at The Lucky Penny’s Work Room and the recipient of a 2017 Idea Capital art grant.

Join us for Drawing in the Galleries during each Friday Jazz from 6 to 9 p.m.

Drop in and sketch live, clothed models in our galleries. We welcome all ranges of drawing experience, including guests who are picking up a sketchbook for the first time!
