High Museum of Art

Event Description

Turn up the volume at the High with great music, signature drinks, and our reimagined galleries on the first Friday of every month. Our galleries stay open late for special tours, drawing demonstrations, live music, and featured guests. It’s happy hour meets art party from 6 to 9 p.m.

January HIGH Frequency Friday

Drink and Draw
Signature drink: Affirmation (horchata and rum)
6–8:30 p.m.
Skyway Level, Wieland Pavilion
Drop in for drawing lessons with Georgia State University instructor Michael Fisher-Tolley. All levels welcome!
Gesture, Then Shape, Then Form: We will focus on getting a loose silhouette of the figure with loose, sloppy gesture drawing. We’ll then refine the edges into a silhouette, measuring distances and angles to ensure that the shape is accurate. Finally, we will turn that flat shape into a three-dimensional form with cross-contour lines, striving to understand the body’s volume in space.

Live Poetry Reading – The Art Section
7:30–8:30 p.m.
Second Level, Stent Family Wing
The Art Section: An Online Journal of Art and Cultural Commentary presents a live reading of new poems inspired by the exhibition Something Over Something Else: Romare Bearden Profile Series, commissioned by The Art Section and curated by poet Opal Moore. Poets Jericho Brown, Melba J Boyd, Sharan Strange, Felton Eaddy, and Frank X Walker will read new poems written in response to the collages on view in the gallery. Look, listen and be part of this exciting event.

Vibrate higher with 432 Hz frequencies by Maestro Riko
6–6:30, 7:00–7:30 p.m. and 8:30–9:00 p.m.

Robinson Atrium, Stent Family Wing

Sound Baths
Time and Location TBD
Grab a yoga mat and join a zen session with Ottavia Lang of Dear Life and her crystal quartz singing bowls.

Docent-led Tour of Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech”
