Take your editorial eye to the next level!

In this studio workshop, we will learn how to create successfully staged photos with a smartphone. Working with live models, we will capture editorial-style images through styling and posing. With guidance from High Museum of Art teaching artist Michelle Alba, we’ll explore how to convey mood and tone through staged portraiture and delve into editing techniques to enhance and finalize our images. At the end of the workshop, we’ll print our best shots at 4×6 images, share our work with fellow participants, and receive instructor feedback. Learn how to capture more engaging images and discover what makes great composition by experimenting with design principles and the technical capabilities of our smartphones.

About Tyler Mitchell: Idyllic Space

This workshop is offered in connection with Tyler Mitchell: Idyllic Space. Mitchell rose to global prominence in 2018 when he photographed Beyoncé for the September issue of Vogue. He was the first Black artist to shoot the cover in the magazine’s then 126-year history. In his work, Mitchell explores style, beauty, and identity through playfully theatrical, expressive photographs that seamlessly blend his fashion and conceptual photographs.
