The Art of Looking

What is the purpose of art? What counts as art, and who gets to define it? Addressing these and other questions, this course provides critical tools for appreciating art. Exploring works in the High’s collection stylistically and historically, we attempt to answer the question, “Why and how does art change?”

Margaret Wilkerson, PhD, has taught courses at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London; The Museum of Modern Art; New York University; The New School; and other institutions. She was a Joan Tisch Teaching Fellow at the Whitney Museum and has lectured at the Whitney and The National Gallery of Art.

The current class has reached capacity, but check back for future offerings. Email Margaret Wilkerson at margaret.wilkerson@high.org for more information.

Welcome back! The Museum is now open to the public.
