In this talk, Broun examines a piece of artwork from the High’s American art collection for each decade of the nineteenth century and shows how it captures what was happening in the country at that time.

Betsy Broun is the former director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC.
