Georgia Blizzard was a highly innovative self-taught potter who lived in Appalachia her entire life. She began working with clay at the age of eight and continued into her eighties to dig clay from a spot in front of her home in the mountains of Appalachia, where she used a small dug-out pit to fire each of her works. Making “pieces about something that’s touched me,” Blizzard created hand-built vessels that most often are portraits or depict narrative scenes. On Abraham’s Faith, bas-relief decoration depicts the events surrounding the sacrifice of Isaac.
