Support the High

Volunteer

Volunteering at the High Museum of Art is an experience that not only enriches the lives of our patrons but yours as well. Volunteers engage with patrons by greeting visitors and helping at special events or educational programs, among other activities. Volunteers receive a monthly email with volunteer updates, invitations to exclusive volunteer-only events, and exposure to the leading art museum in the Southeastern United States.

The High Volunteer Program requires a commitment of six months to one year, with at least six hours (two shifts) encouraged per month. All volunteers must be eighteen years of age or older.

Volunteer Positions

Museum Greeter: Become a friendly face that welcomes visitors and provides directions to the galleries. You’ll be a source of knowledge, answering general questions, managing the queue, and lending a hand with member-only services and special activities as needed.

Information Desk: Stationed at the heart of the museum’s Stent Wing, you’ll be a vital source of information for our guests. Share your knowledge and passion for art by answering queries and creating a warm, informative environment.

Public Conversations: Immerse yourself in intellectual discussions as you assist distinguished guests, from artists and curators to scholars, during our Thursday night lectures in the Hill Auditorium. Your role will involve checking in guests and offering directions. Plus, you’re invited to stay and enjoy the lecture after check-in.

smARTbox: Channel your creativity into helping us prepare our monthly art supply box, smARTbox, which we distribute for free to children ages two to twelve. Be part of the process as we assemble and organize these boxes that make art accessible to young minds.

Lifelong Learning Programing: Share the joy of learning by supporting our specialized programs for older adults. You’ll assist the facilitators to ensure these enriching experiences, from art-appreciation courses to art-making workshops, run smoothly.

HIGH Frequency Friday: Kick off each month on the first Friday with HIGH Frequency Friday! Be part of the excitement as live DJs fill the museum with music. Guide guests to the different activities of the night and lend a hand in maintaining orderly queues and a vibrant atmosphere.

Oasis: Join us on the second Friday of each month for an evening of relaxation and reflection. Greet guests and guide them to the various calming activities. Your role may include assisting with art making, checking in guests, managing the queue, and ensuring everyone enjoys a peaceful evening.

UPS Second Sunday: Play a pivotal role in our busiest and most dynamic day of the month! Assist patrons, direct visitors, and engage in the various activities set up throughout the museum and Sifly Piazza. This is your chance to make a difference while having a blast.

Friday Jazz: On the third Friday of every month, immerse yourself in the soulful tunes of live jazz musicians as they serenade the museum. Help guests navigate the evening’s offerings and ensure a seamless experience for all attendees.
