Monza created this print after years of aggressive anti-Communist hearings by Congress and soon after the first hydrogen bomb was detonated. As soldiers, tanks, and fighter planes invade a plaza where citizens congregate, an eagle perches on the roof of the central building, ready to swoop down onto a cleric, a military man, and an industrialist—symbols of the institutions Monza distrusted most. The Statue of Liberty slumps above a skeleton and space ships appear in the sky. The skewed, expressionistic perspective destabilizes the composition, while the colors of the ink leave no doubt that the United States is the subject here.
