Oki Sato, founder and creative leader of Japanese design group nendo, has earned a reputation for designing objects that are deceptively simple and startlingly poetic. Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake (1938–2022) challenged the group to create something using leftovers from the textile manufacturing process. In Cabbage Chair, nendo repurposes that waste, layering soft sheets of discarded clothing pleats into a comfortable, ecofriendly seat.
