Oki Sato, founder and creative leader of Japanese design group nendo, was trained as an architect and has earned a reputation for designing objects that are both deceptively simple and poetic. Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake challenged nendo to create something using leftovers from the textile manufacturing process of creating pleats in clothing. The resulting Cabbage chair repurposes that waste. nendo simply peels away the individual layers of small, soft sheets until a charming seating surface is revealed.
