Gothic architectural details—six clustered columns, three beaded trefoil terminals on the triangular base, and the ogee-arched scallop skirt—have been imaginatively combined with a hexagonal marble top to create this center table. A quintessential mid-nineteenth-century parlor furniture form—center tables were believed to be the symbol of the family circle—this table epitomizes the period practice of adapting historical elements into furniture design.
