Anders Lunde began carving wood when he retired in 1979. In addition to creating colorful, narrative whirligigs, he published several instructional booklets detailing the “how-to” of his art. This sculpture shows Hillary Clinton and Bob Dole engaging in a partisan tug of war over health care reform, weighed down by the Republican party as represented by an elephant. President Bill Clinton spins in the breeze, pointing fingers. As a former employee of the U.S. Public Health Service, Lunde felt strongly about this subject.
