Alabama artist Ronald Lockett’s tin pieces deal with death and remembrance. Lockett created this image of a buffalo using a simple perforated outline and metal scraps. It is a poignant commemoration of the buffalo and their Native American hunters, both of whom faced the threat of elimination by the advance of White settlers. The punctures in the metal also recall bullet holes, suggesting the artist’s distress at the social plight of the young Black men of his generation.
