Known for his poetic visions of the American landscape, Ed Ruscha draws upon the Pop art tradition by co-opting images from popular culture. Here an archetypal suburban house—an icon of shelter, warmth, and safety—glows mysteriously from within, possessed by a strange energy and unseen inhabitants. The house becomes a symbol of fortified homestead in the frontier of suburbia. Home Power also hints at the anonymity and the dark façade of pre fab life in the suburban sprawl that characterized the 1980s.
