The errant son wastes his inheritance in the pursuit of sensual pleasures in an East Asian–fantasy version of a disreputable dance hall. Although the scene as such is apt to offend modern sensibilities about ethnic and gender stereotyping, Tissot’s unusual bisected composition and multiplication of the dancers’ forms gives this print a satisfying formal strength.
