This lithographic series captures the desperation, pessimism, political crisis, and negotiations that typified the dying days of minority rule in 1993. David Koloane’s formal depictions of dogs attacking each other in the Mgodoyi Series expresses the notion of “dog-eat-dog,” symbolizing the quest for survival on the streets of Johannesburg. As Koloane’s dogs whirl around one another, their motion moves between playfulness and aggression.
