In the face of some local criticism, Finster pursued publicity that he believed was part of God’s plan for his masterpiece, Paradise Garden. This cutout, a template for Elvis at Three Years Old, bears Finster’s hand-lettered account of the journalists who had interviewed him and filmed the Garden. On it he explained the evangelical nature of his creations: “MY WORK IS GOING OUT FROM THE GARDEN LIKE A FLOWING RIVER ON CAMERY PICTURES IN SLIDES. MOVYS. AND FAMILY PICTURES. BY T.V. RADIO. AND PEOPLE TELLING THE GARDEN STORY ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.”
