Appearing much more like a galaxy than an apple or New York City, this photograph of an apple reveals Caponigro’s interest in exploring deep, philosophical meanings through images of nature. This expressive trend originated with Minor White who was Caponigro’s teacher and mentor from 1957 to 1959. Caponigro’s images are notable for their purity of form and great technical skill. A master at printing, he also studied painting and music and constantly searches for ways to push the content of his images into a metaphysical realm.
