Created overtop leafs of sheet music, incorporating watercolor with collage elements, Notes from Elmina II is part of Radcliffe Bailey’s series reflecting on the tragic Middle Passage of the Black Atlantic, the triangular trade route between Africa, Europe, and the Americas. These works underscore the importance of music in the formation of African American culture and to European musical forms during the era of the Middle Passage.
