This vessel uses Mary Ann “Toots” Zynsky’s signature filet de verre (fused glass thread) technique, a process she created that put her on the international map of glass artistry. Made of kiln-fused glass threads that are first fired and slumped in a heat-resistant bowl before inverted over a cone form, the pliable disc shape is then hand-formed by Zynsky using heat-resistant gloves. This process ensures that each vessel is unique, and gives her work a fluid, undulating flow that warrants viewing from various perspectives to fully appreciate the movement in the solid, yet breakable material of glass.
