Portrait Mode (Frieze London #02) is a distorted assemblage of found clothing, so tightly pressed under glass that the garments lose their original identities and are instead transformed into prismatic abstractions of varying human- made animal prints. By blurring cultural markers, Beier’s work hovers between the tradition of historical landscape painting and the pixelated flatness of modern smartphone imagery.
