French antiquarian and draughtsman Jean-Jacques Boissard designed portrait drawings for a volume on Ottoman or Turkish Sultans and their consorts. Theodor de Bry engraved and printed the images in 1597. De Bry surrounded the portraits with elaborate floral frames, possibly in reference to similar motifs in Islamic art. The profile portraits are reminiscent of Roman cameos or coins. This portrait represents Albanian nobleman and military commander Moisi Golemi, who led Albanian resistance against the Ottomans in the 1440s and was later executed In Istanbul.
