By his mid-twenties, Otto Baumberger was already hailed as an “exemplary” and “groundbreaking” poster artist praised for his stylistic range, his bold and brightly colored posters borrowing from Art Nouveau, Bauhaus, and cubist compositions. Working with the preeminent Swiss printing firm Wolfensberger, Baumberger produced this poster for Zurich’s Neue Zürcher Zeitung—the “leading paper in Switzerland for politics, business, the economy, and art,” per the text at bottom right. Copies of the front page are set against three silhouettes, their sleek haircuts, fashionable glasses, and fancy jewelry pointing to a chic and cosmopolitan readership.
