A masterpiece of Southern and American quilt making, this extraordinarily vibrant quilt is filled with writhing energy and vivid color and made with superb patchwork construction. The exciting composition is created by the series of rectangles that forms the background for the snakes, an element often seen in African American quilt making. The undulating snakes, made of alternating triangles of black and brilliant colors, are more realistically rendered than more abstract and angular snakes seen on other African American quilts and Haitian textiles.
