Rainbow Chair by French designer Patrick Norguet is constructed of forty-four translucent strips of brightly colored acrylic in varying thicknesses. Norguet manipulates by hand the machine-cut acrylic sheets and builds the chair layer by layer before bonding it with ultrasound technology—a machine process that converts an electrical current into vibrations powerful enough to weld materials—and finally hand-polishing it. The result is a labor-intensive object of colorful luxury.
