In 1949, Inge Morath joined the recently founded Magnum Photos, first as an editor and then as a member of its corps of photographers who documented events around the world. In 1956, she traveled to Iran on assignment for Holiday magazine to document the country’s carpets and mosques. While there, she also photographed new refineries for Standard Oil and factories for Pepsi and documented issues such as child labor, religious customs, and the changing domestic economy.
