While celebrated for his expressive portraits and vibrant outdoor scenes, Renoir, like his fellow Impressionists, turned to painting still lifes as both an exercise in light and form and because they were very marketable. Still Life with Apples is a beautiful example of Renoir’s late painterly technique and his ability to capture a few apples placed on a table and filled with the warm glow of summer.
