Abelardo Morell is internationally renowned for images that use the language of photography to explore visual surprise and wonder. From pictures of his family and home from a child’s point of view to images in which he turns an entire room into a camera obscura, Morell approaches picture-making with wit and creativity. Recently he explored the concept of joining an image of a landscape with the nearby surface of the ground. With the help of his assistant, Morell designed a light-proof tent that projects a view of the landscape onto the ground under the tent through the use of optics similar to a periscope. He then used a view camera inside this darkened space to record the effect.
