Time for a Change is from Walker’s wall series from the late 1980s and 1990s, which often incorporates images of silhouettes in urban environments. The juxtaposition of the hard architectural elements—especially brick walls as an allusion to modernism and the use of geometric repetition—and the translucency of the shadows creates a dimensional space in the work that challenges the notion of the flat picture plane. Walker intentionally creates a space for the viewer to enter and engage with his work, to be transformed from object to subject.
