While cloistered in the attic of his home in Texas, following his wife's death in 1877, Charles Dellschau devoted much of his retirement to creating notebooks filled with painted images of fantastic flying machines. Detailed and inventive, these drawings reflect Dellschau's fascination with the design of mechanized flying contraptions. Turn-of-the-century newspaper clippings about airborne innovations are frequently incorporated as collage elements in Dellschau's visionary works.
