Adam Fuss makes a type of camera-less photograph known as a photogram by laying objects directly onto a photo-sensitive surface and exposing it to light. This process, which dates to the early days of the medium, produces detailed images that capture the exact scale and presence of the subject. The glowing, primordial depictions of figures in water, as in this photograph of a newborn, evoke birth and death and the transcendent qualities of this shared human experience.
