John Constable transformed landscape painting in the early-nineteenth-century. Unlike other landscape painters of the time, who chose famous sites or exotic locations, Constable was known to only depict locations close to where he lived and worked. The subject of this watercolor depicts a home in Hampstead, a suburb of London, where he lived and worked later in life.
