Art Conversations

Looking for more art conversations? Join us in person or online on the first Tuesday of every month for Conversation Pieces.

Through Lines

Museum Galleries, Stent Family Wing, Second Level, Gallery 203 | 11 a.m.

How do different artworks approach similar ideas in unique ways? In these lively conversations, we will explore two different pieces to connect art across time, geography, identity, and belief.

Through Lines meets at the first artwork location and lasts thirty to forty-five minutes. Please see below for times, artworks, and locations. Stools and assistive listening devices will be available and are highly recommended.

Minnie Evans (American, 1892–1987), Untitled (Three Large Figures, Night Sky, and Stars Collage) (1967), and Eddie Owens Martin (St. EOM) (American, 1908–1986), Pasaquoyan Man with Ritual Headdress and Levitation Suit (ca. 1965–1975).

Four people stand in an art gallery, observing a colorful, patterned sculpture of a human figure with an elaborate headpiece. Paintings hang on the white walls behind them.

HIGHlights tour

Taylor Lobby | 1 p.m.

Engage directly with works of art in the galleries through a docent-led HIGHlights tour! Discover the museum’s history and collection, as well as its impact on the city, and learn more about a selection of artworks through close observation and thoughtful conversation.

This tour meets in front of the elevators in the Taylor Lobby and lasts approximately sixty minutes. Stools will be available and are highly recommended.

Art Making

Open Studio: Imaginative Garden Collage

Greene Family Education Center, Red Workshop | 10 a.m.–12 noon and 2–4 p.m.

Experiment, play, and exercise your creativity during Open Studio! This informal drop-in program encourages adults of all ages to explore different materials and techniques with guidance from High Museum of Art teaching artists. Materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary.

Draw inspiration from our current exhibition, The Lost World: The Art of Minnie Evans, and create symmetrical collages influenced by Evans’ elaborate botanical designs. Combine imagery, color, and texture to invent dreamlike gardens, expressive landscapes, and patterns with imaginative foliage.

Join a facilitated afternoon of mindful sound activations. Get comfortable and recharge your heart and soul in an immersive full-body experience. Stay for a full session or come and go as desired. Jasmine Wilson will facilitate this month’s sound bath meditation.
