Start with the simplest tools: torn paper, bold shapes, and your own instincts. Then, drawing inspiration from the work of Stanley Whitney and Hasani Sahlehe, build strong compositions that leverage form, contrast, and color. Discover how placement creates a sense of movement and meaning, and as your confidence grows, shift your work from playful experiments to a dynamic, personal abstraction that reflects deeper levels of expression.
About Studio Workshops
Studio Workshops are beginner-friendly art-making workshops inspired by artworks on view at the High. These workshops provide opportunities to experiment, play, and enjoy new art-making materials and processes. No prior experience is required. Studio Workshops are designed for adults, but all ages are welcome. This workshop is offered three times.
About Your Instructor
Janssen Robinson is an Atlanta-based artist and educator. As a child, he discovered his love of art through programs at the Butler Street YMCA. In middle school, realizing that creating art was a way to understand and navigate the world, Janssen’s creativity led him to the University of Georgia, where he studied scientific illustration and broadened his skills to include photography, graphic design, and videography. Today, he works in graphic design and paints, both in his studio and at events. Through teaching, Janssen strives to inspire others to embrace their creativity as a tool for growth and self-expression.
