Art of Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso is among the most culturally rich nations on Earth. Independent from French colonial rule since 1960, Burkina Faso, or “land of upright people,” lies at the southern edge of the Sahara Desert. Highlights of art from Burkina Faso in the High Museum’s collection include an ensemble of contemporary Bwa masks and a Karan Wemba (Living Ancestress) mask made by a Mossi sculptor more than a century ago.
