High Museum of Art Launches Summer Art Camps for Ages 6 to 11

March 14, 2016

Weeklong camps on sale now for June 13 through Aug. 5

ATLANTA, March 14, 2016 ― Creativity rules this summer at the High with the launch of Summer Art Camps, new weeklong, immersive camps for children ages 6 to 11. The camps run June 13 through Aug. 5, 2016, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with aftercare available from 4 to 6 p.m. Registration is now open at www.high.org.

“Every summer, we welcome families to connect with art through special weekend programs,” said Virginia Shearer, the High’s Eleanor McDonald Storza director of education. “This summer, we are thrilled to expand our offerings with weekday camps, which will be a whole lot of fun and a great way to introduce kids to the wonder of art and the joy of creativity.”

Summer Art Camps cost $350 for members and $400 for non-members (additional charge of $50 for aftercare). Families may select from the following options, each of which includes hands-on art-making and exploration of artworks with professional teaching artists:

Crafty Creatives
Ages 6 to 8
This camp takes crafting to a new level. Kids will enjoy hands-on craft projects and check out how artists in the High’s permanent collection used craft in their creations.

International Art Stars
Ages 6 to 8
Avoid the jetlag and schedule your international travel through the High’s galleries instead. In this camp, kids will explore art from all over the world in the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions as well as create passports and artwork inspired by their gallery travels.

Watercolors, Tempera, and Oils … Oh, My
Ages 9 to 11
Kids will discover and create different types of paint such as oil paint, tempera and watercolors and explore painting techniques, brushes and more in this hands-on, workshop-style camp.

Delve into Design
Ages 9 to 11
This camp is all about exploring design in the world around us—and in the High’s collection and special exhibitions. From furniture to ceramics and even sneakers, kids will experiment with design concepts and see if they can change the future of design with their ideas.

Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. For more information and to register, visit www.high.org.
